What is the Spivey Hill Challenge?
The Spivey Hill Challenge is a 5K race,
a 2 Mile Walk and Talk, and a 1K Fun Run.
This year’s race will be held:
Nov. 9, 2024
In Honor of Dr. Jamie Epperson
In Honor of Spencer Street III
Spencer was a vital part of the race as a founding board member since the start. His life and his legacy inspires us all to want to be the best that we can be, to love our families more than anything, and to serve our community simply because we want to make it the best place on earth.
Everything he did was with love and joy and passion. He had a way of making everyone feel special. We will always remember his booming voice and his constant and contagious smile.
We all miss him so much.
In Honor of Bill Spivey
With the encouraging support of his loving wife, Billie, Bill Spivey made substantial contributions to the Graham, Texas landscape. Many of Graham’s landmarks, such as Dairy King, the baseball parks and the Spivey Hill housing addition, would not be here today if it weren’t for his vision and dedication to making this town the best that it can be. Bill Spivey was a long time Graham resident. He passed away in 2014.
We honor his hard work and big dreams by holding this event in the heart of the area he developed. By including “Spivey Hill” in this 5K, this race becomes more of a challenge and you will have earned bragging rights after you complete it!
Shine On is a charity dedicated to serving those in Young and Jack Counties who have been victims of domestic violence, homelessness, addiction rehabilitation, and are in need of help. Shine On’s mission is to provide a Christ-based atmosphere and a safe environment to enable healing, restoration, and a transition back into the community. Last year Shine On provided financial help in a number of ways, including rent and deposits for 12 individuals, hotel stays for 3, car repairs for 4, legal fees for 3, counseling fees for 7 (both women and children), and even 7 scholarships for graduating seniors affected by these circumstances. Also provided were numerous practical needs like groceries, transportation, medical needs, utility payments, clothing, and even a dance recital costume. Many women and children were aided as they forged ahead to a better life.
Garments of Grace, a charity that is near and dear to the Street family’s hearts, provides brand-new clothing with the tags still attached for a “shopping” environment to needy children in Graham. GOG serves around 200 kids per year, predominantly in the months of July and August. Their mission is to help children receive new clothing and witness it transcend into something bigger, like a sense of self-worth and vibrance that shines outward into their classrooms, schools and community.
The Graham Friends of The Arc is a nonprofit organization that was formed to create a location whereby The Arc of Wichita County could open and operate Day Habilitation and transportation programs for Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled teens and adults. Already in operation at a rented location, we’re busting at the seams while awaiting completed renovations of our new digs at 611 South Street! Community outings, service events, parties, trips and more fun await our current and expanding membership! The Graham location is named The Hero House.
